My Uncle’s Haunted Mansion I am Conner Trip, and I will be the main character in this story. On June 1st, 2005, I was in a truck with my Mom and Dad. Suddenly, we crashed into a ditch, and the engine blew up! Both my Mom and Dad died. I then had to live with my Uncle Jack. Four months later in mid October, Uncle Jack died of old age at 84. I inherited his mansion. On October 31st, I walked to Auburn, Washington at 5279 356th Lane. When I finally got there, I said “What a dump!” I walked up the stairs and went into the mansion. The first thing that I saw were ghosts talking in the entry way! Once the ghosts saw me, they vanished. Behind the ghosts were stairs that looked like they went on for miles. On my way up the stairs, I saw flaming torches on the sides of the walls. At the top of the stairs, the floor creaked from my footsteps. As I walked into the kitchen, cob webs dangled down with huge black tarantulas that would kill you if you touched them! I saw a table with drinks, delicious looking apples, and pumpkin pie. I felt a little hungry at the time so I sat down at the table. Right before I ate the apple, I accidentally knocked over a drink. The drink spilled over the table and melted right through it! I then thought that the apple was poisoned too! I suddenly lost my appetite. Hearing music from the ballroom, I opened the double doors and saw ghosts playing music and dancing. The music that the ghosts were playing was very good. I went down stairs to the other kitchen where there was a headless man with an axe in his hand. He was coming right at me! Then he fazed through me like he was just another ghost. It was starting to get dark inside and outside. Right beside me, there was a desk with a lantern on it. I used the lantern to explore the rest of the mansion. There was just one problem. The lantern wouldn’t start. It was a kerosene lantern, and the kerosene seemed to be out. I looked outside the cracked and broken windows and saw it was a little windy. Then all the sudden, a door appeared in the middle of the kitchen! The door had mist all over it. I went over to the door and looked at both sides of the door. The door was free-standing! There was one door knob, and I opened it. The door led to the attic! The air was very dusty. When I looked at the floor, there were at least 13 termites. The termites were eating the wood right from underneath me, and the floor was about to collapse! Right before the floor caved in, I jumped and hit the floor next to me very hard! Once I got up, I saw another door. This door had a piece of paper taped to it. The paper said “This ghost party goes on until this haunted mansion is repaired!” I thought to myself, I should start fixing this haunted dump! I used some of the money that I inherited from my Uncle Jack to buy some tools. Also, I hired two employees, Tom and John, to work for me and to help me. We fixed the windows, floors, wood in the walls, doors, desks, chairs, both kitchens, and that pesky lantern. After we fixed everything, I no longer needed Tom and John. Then I thought I have to sell this place and have an auction. Later that day, the kitchen door reappeared. I went through the door and into the attic. The door was still there but the piece of paper said “Thank you for fixing our home.” After I read the note, the door disappeared. Two days later, the auction started and lasted for only one hour. My Uncle Jack’s haunted mansion was sold to a man in New York for one million dollars! I then opened a business as a general contractor. By Kordel Burnett, Age 9
